cryptostormusersguidev2 <-- feedback & guidance requested

Looking for a bit more than customer support, and want to learn more about what cryptostorm is , what we've been announcing lately, and how the cryptostorm network makes the magic? This is a great place to start, so make yourself at home!

{direct link:}

The attached cstorm "user's guide" (we abhor the term "users" internally, as it's got that seedy edge... but everyone else uses it so we're not going to be too churlish about it in current context) was recently submitted to us anonymously by a community member. Actually we think it was submitted by a token reseller - and we're not sure if the "anonymous" submission was intentional or if we're just too slow to follow who should receive proper credit for this excellent work. In any case, we'll update this with such credit if/when we're provided with instructions by the author to do so. :-)

This is a pretty impressive document, based on our first-run read-thru. Likely there's updates and so on that will be needed... but for a starting point it seems enormously useful.

Rather than us keeping it internally until we figure out boring things like who actually wrote it, we've decided to make it available here. By all means, please share your critique and/or corrections, as needed, if you've a minute or two to read through it and catch any areas that could use revision.

Meanwhile, feel free to share with others and we hope this becomes a useful - and widely available - resource for members far & wide.

Tally ho,

~ cryptostorm

ps: also this, no relation to the userguide but hey laughter is the best whatever ;-)

Nice one, thanks.
Is there any plan to put that in a more editable-friendly format like a wiki for corrections and stuff ? (oh look I was complaining about CS having too many services and now I ask for a new one)

This is really nice work, if you would like to amend this to to the wiki I started many moons ago I'll grant you admin... if the owner doesn't mind it transcribing?

A great guide for me (very much the newb). Being the sort of person that would rather pick up a nasty infestation of scabies than use Windows, the Linux hardening section was of particular interest and use.

Thanks anon.

Really, really great, this would be great in a wiki format, so people can contribute to whatever :-D

in a quick once over, it looks fantastic. I would only make one suggestion at this point though, ipchicken is implied in testing your vpn settings, but is secure (automatically redirects to https) and is a tor supporter etc etc. If I were to regularily visit an ip locator site, I would definately pick that one.

to each their own though. maybe there is something I dont know about ipchicken that earned its way into this awesome doc

How up-to-date is this, and, would you place a similar document in the GitHub repository or otherwise maintain an "official" living document somewhere?

In the instructions to install cryptostorm in linux there is a part when one has to import a configuration file (.conf) into Network Connections. Checking all the configuration files in github, there are only '.opvn' files and not a single '.conf' that we can use to import the corresponding setup.

Where can we get this file?
If not, is there a step by step guide to create this VPN configuration manually?

I think the .ovpn extension can be manually changed to .conf without any issues.

1- Crytostorm should make a youtube 'how to' video that references this guide so idiots like me can understand faster and make a purchase.

2- The guide mentions that Crytostorm helps with concealment from "just plain stupid terms of service from companies like Netflix." Please explain a bit more how it does this and what terms.(very generally)

FYI, this guide is probably outdated since it was written in 2015.
