Windows 10 Client DNS Errors

Hi all, I've installed widget v3.45 on a new windows 10 laptop and simply can't get it to work
. First I had errors with the TAP driver until I renamed it to 'cryptostorm'. Now it can't resolve any of the servers. My token is working.
Things I've tried.
1) uninstalling the tap driver (and re-running the widget, at which point the tap drivers get reinstalled)
2) uninstalling the tap driver, and then installing the tap driver that comes with openvpn.
3) renaming tap adapter to 'cryptostorm' (somewhat successful in that the widget identifies that there is a tap adapter, but then I seem to get DNS errors)
4) updating the server list
5) trying different servers
6) changing my DNS settings from automatic to google (then open DNS when that didn't work)
7) selecting yes when the widget asked to change DNS to cloudflare
8) using simple DNS crypt (i didn't expect this to work but at this point I'm all out of ideas).
I am not having any trouble resolving websites etc outside trying to use the widget, so I'm not really sure where to go to from here.
