Inconsistent 'tls-ciphers' for 'TLSv1.3' across different servers

Hi Df;
I've noticed inconsistent 'tls-ciphers' for 'TLSv1.3' across different servers. All my ed25519 ovpn.conf files are exactly the same, except of course the IP addy.

On these servers; US-Maine, US-Washington, Findland, Germany-Frankfurt, Ireland, Montreal, Serbia, Spain-Barcelona, Switzerland, Vancouver,, The log shows; 'Control Channel: TLSv1.3, cipher TLSv1.3 TLS_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256'

On these servers; Austria, Czech, Iceland, Ireland, Rome, Bulgaria, Latvia, Moldova, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain-Madrid, UK-London,Manchester,, The log shows; 'Control Channel: TLSv1.3, cipher TLSv1.3 TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384'

Does it matter if the 'tls-ciphers' are different?

Is one preferable over the other?

If 'TLS_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256' is better, how do I force the server to use this?

thnx

Re: Cryptostorm network - news

Awesome to know you're back df :clap: , you are the only one who can properly steer the CS ship!! Over the past year things had started to deteriorate, I did notice little improvements last week like quicker connections etc. and decided to check here to see if indeed you're back.

It seems like the best way to get the latest news regarding CS, is through their Twitter account;

Re: Cryptostorm network - news

Within the past few days, CA certificates are being updated, the 'token' database will be back online network wide soon,,, so does this mean Df is actually back?!

If he can just pop-in and let us know he's back, that would put a lot of minds at ease here!!!

Hey CS team

Any news on the network status?

- cryptostorm.nu is still bust
- Wireguard for CS is down

- OpenVPN is warning that it will soon discontinue 'compress' in your configs
- Is Df back? Last mention of him being available was end of August...

So an update would be higly appreciated. Thanks and take care.

n8
With cryptostorm.nu & Wireguard still down, it's a safe bet Df still ain't back. I hope he's OK, he is 'Cryptostorm', without him what do we have!?

Am I correct that the canary text hasn't been changed (it still mentions that the next update is on 31st March) because the founder of Cyptostorm isn't available until 28th of May?
Looks like it's been updated today(1 hr ago), did you re-check?

Re: Connection to Switzerland node being a little flaky

same here, using .ovpn configs, the routing tables appear to be fine but there's no internet, had similar issue with Washington DC node too a few days ago.

I'm surprised the rest of the CS nodes are still running in top form despite DF's absence. Lets' hope his return is soon and he can get CS back to how it was last year with WG back-up and all the other goodies he had planned to implement.

The Polish server is off-line and 1 of their French servers was recently removed? You should check their server status page for their online status, here;

Well, the Warrant Canary was given an unexpected update today. So it looks like eveything is OK!

Those suspicious comments may of been made by a CS competitor to spread FUD?!

hmm...

Well they've been down this path before. Let's give him some time.

I'm confident he'll figure something out & get CS back and running properly again.

If true there is only Mullvad left, then?
Let's not panic yet!! Wait a bit and see what happens in the next week or so... :think:

Anyone figure out what, I presume df wrote on tweeter the other day with the comment of "um" means?!?!?! :think:

That could be a clue as to what's going on behind the scenes. :?

I have a few years worth of tokens left, so hopefully it's not ALL gonna be flushed away... :wtf:

For those of you trying to setup WG In Linux Mint 19.1-tessa-xfce-x64, you'll also need to install the following;

\sudo apt install resolvconf curl

I don't use their widget, only the openvpn gui.

You should contact their support at; support@cryptostorm.is , the response is usually quite fast.

And post their response here, so we can all learn...

Re: HOW-TO: Tomato router setup

I know this is an old thread. Suppose it's better to keep all things Tomato in 1 thread.

Has anyone been able to run the new 'ECC' config on a Tomato router? I tried changing the obvious differences, but it wouldn't work.

If someone is able to get "ECC' running on their Tomato router, could you post the settings here?! Thanks

Re: Why was Stripe disabled?

Stripe was very easy & quick with anonymous Visa Gift cards. The next payment provider should be just as easy & convenient.

Edit; I just noticed other posts asking about Stripe too. The proper way to run a successful business is to ALREADY HAVE a replacement ready before disabling Stripe. You're probably losing a lot of orders without a replacement payment service. :thumbdown:
